Narrative Photography
Narrative photography is trying to show that photographs can be used to show or tell a story. Allen Feldman said that ''the event is not what happens. the event is that which can be narrated''. This shows the medium of the photography. The narrative photography competition in portland, Oregon describes the concept in the following way the power of narrative or story telling is the foundation of a lot of photography. Photographers are creating complex and descriptive moments in time. Contemporary photographers are crafting and documenting new forms of a visual short story.Staged photography is involving a performance enacted before the camera. It embraces studio portraiture and character driven scenarios directed or manipulated by the photography. It is also photographs that capture staged scenes that made only for the purpose of photography. while this type of image making became important in the 1980s through the work of artists such as cindy sherman and jeff wall.
Hippolyte Bayard was born 20th january 1807 and died 14th may 1887. He created the first staged photograph, self portrait as a drowned man in 1840. i think that the photograph is very interesting as how he places himself in the photograph and just the overall black and white feel to it.http://artsy.net/gene/staged-photography
