Key Photograph #4

UNIT 31/LO4
Photography Evaluation Write Up

My intention of the fourth photograph was to get the side of the student center. I wanted to show were part of the film was being taken place on my poster. I did not set up a depth of field for this photograph.

I selected this photograph because i liked the way the building was positioned. It fulfilled the purpose best because i just did not like the way that the building was positioned. Others did not have the position of the building that i liked for the poster design. It was suitable for the poster and dvd box because of the way the building is presented in the photograph but i did not use this photograph in the end.

When i edited the photograph i cropped it down to cut the unwanted parts out as it was not needed. I changed the brightness and contrast to 84 63 making it slightly brighter. Then i slightly adjusted the curves and levels.

I really like the way the way the final photograph turned out. I wanted it to show only the the building. I wanted the photograph to look slightly darker then the original.

My intention of the first photograph was to get the front of collage. I wanted to show were part of the film was being taken place on my poster.. I did not set up a depth of field for this photograph.

I selected this photograph because i liked the way the trees were positioned and the way that the building was in the background. It fulfilled the purpose best because some of the shots that were taken were unusable due to other objects being in the way or just did not like the way the building was positioned. Others did not have the position of the building that i liked for the poster design. I really like were the trees are in this photograph. It was suitable for the poster and dvd box because of the way the building and trees are presented in the photograph.

When i edited the photograph i cropped it down to cut the unwanted parts out as it was not needed. I changed the brightness and contrast slightly. Also changed levels, curves and exposure slightly. Then changed the vibrance to -43.
I really like the way the way the final photograph turned out. I wanted it to show only the the building and trees. I wanted the photograph to look slightly darker then the original.

I think that this photograph was used very well as it shows where part of the film is taken place. It contributes to the success of the overall poster that it dose not make the poster look boring or blank.

My intention for this photograph was to get the MRC building at a good angle for the bottom of my poster. I walked around the MRC building with my camera and tri pod trying to get different angles of the MRC.

I selected this photograph because i liked the way the building was positioned. I also really liked how the sign was presented in the foreground of the photograph. There was no depth of field used for this photograph.

I edited the photograph by cropping the left and bottom side down so that it just keeps the sign in. I firstly changed the brightness and contrast to -55 60. The levels were then changed to 27 1.53 255. I slightly adjusted the curves and exposure. Then i changed the vibrance to -66.

I think that this photograph is used very well especially with the sign in the foreground.

I think that this photograph was used very well as it shows where part of the film is taken place. It contributes to the success of the overall poster that it dose not make the poster look boring or blank.

My intention of the first photograph was to get the character to look off into the distance. I wanted to get the character to the side of the shot. I did not set up a depth of field for this photograph.

I selected this photograph because i liked the way the character was positioned and the way that he was standing. It fulfilled the purpose best because some of the shots that were taken were unusable due to laughing. Others did not have the position that i liked for the poster design. It was suitable for the poster and dvd box because of the way the character is presented in the photograph.

When i edited the photograph i cropped it down to cut the background out as it was not needed. I adjusted with the brightness and contrast making it -45 to 100. The levels were changed to 22 1.31 247. I then slightly changed the exposure. I then changed the vibrance to -83.
I really like the way the way the final photograph turned out. i anted it to look slightly faded to go with my designs for the poster.

I think that this photograph worked well into the final piece as it goes with the genre of the film.  I think that it brought the whole poster together.

Ansel Adams

Ansel Easton Adams was born in February 20th 1902 and died at the age of 82 in April 22nd 1984. He was an american photographer and a environmentalist. He made his black and white landscape photographs of the american west especially at the yosemite national park. They have been massively used on calenders, posters and in books. He developed the zone system with fred archer as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. The clarity and depth characterized his photographs. He mainly used large format cameras because of their high resolution. He also founded the group f/64 along with the photographers willard can dyke and edward weston. He was born in San Francisco. He was born into the upper class with upper class parents. He was an only child named after his uncle. In 1927 he produced his first portfolio called parmelian prints of high sierras. Between 1929 and 1942 his work became more established with taking more detailed and close up photographs which at that time he became more experimental.

This photograph by Ansel Adams is called The Tetons and the Snake River. It is a black and white photograph. It is very interesting with the mountain range in the background which looks like the river leading up to it. It is a negative photograph with it being taken in the Grand Teton National Park.
This photograph was taken by Ansel Adams and is called Close Up of Leaves In Glacier National Park. It is another negative black and white photograph. This looks like a very detailed close up photograph. This photograph looks very different to his other photographs because this one is more detailed and close up where as his other photographs are more landscape.
This photograph was taken in 1942 by Ansel Adams. The photograph is called Church, Taos Pueblo. The photograph looks quite interesting as it looks like a gateway going to a run down church in a rural country.

LO1 Blog Post #3 (Henri Cartier-Bresson)

UNIT 31 LO1 Blog Post 3

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Henri Carier-Bresson was born in 1908 and died at the age of 96 in 2004. He was a french photographer who helped develop the style of street photography of photographers in the future. His main choice of camera was the leica camera to shoot in 35mm format. When he was younger he owned a box brownie so that he could take holiday snapshots. He was raised in a traditonal  french way of life. He was then introduced to oil paintings by his uncle louis after an successful attempt at music. In 1927 he entered into a private art school at the age of 22 years old. He became inspired by a 1930 photograph by hungarian photographer Martin Munkasci showing three naked young african boys running into the surf. This captured the freedom of their movement and their joy to be alive. He changed his technique several times with testing new camera lenses by taking photographs of ducks in parks. He never published the images but refered to them as his only superstition.

On the visual style of geometry he focuses on geometry. He tried using vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines, curves and shadows into his photographs to his advantage. He tries to look for shapes and geometry in the natural world as well. He would be very patient when taking his photographs. He would sometimes be spontaneous but other times having to be patient on when to take his photographs. When being patient he would think about the people, background, framing and composition to attempt at getting the perfect photograph. When he was out taking his photographs he would wait for the right person to walk by and complete his photograph. He did not always go out and look for a photograph, he would usually just wait until one comes to him. He would travel the world annd shot in places like india, all of europe, united states, china and africa. when he went to the different countries he would try to capture different styles of life and to try and learn more about the local people. If he was shooting for just himself he would only use 50 mm lenses. When he took photographs on the streets he would try and blend into the background. He would sometimes cover his camera in black tape and even sometimes a handkerchief. before he became a photographer he was a painter and tried to see his photographs as a painting. He never cropped his photographs. He sent the photographs to people he trusted for them to print them.

This photograph by Henri Cartier-Bresson is called FRANCE. Marseiller. The Allee du Prado. 1932. He took the photograph when he was walking behind the man but he then suddenly turned around. The photograph looks interesting as there are no leaves on the trees which show that it is winter. I like where the man is standing which looks like the center of the pathway.

This photograph by Henri Cartier-Bresson is called FRANCE. Paris. Place de l'Europe. Gare Saint Lazare. 1932. This one of his most famous photographs. I like the way he took the photograph with holding the camera through the wall without even looking. I also like the way that the police man is jumping across the puddle and you can see his reflection just below him.

This photograph taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson is called IRELAND. Province of Munster. Kerry Country. Near Bantree. 1962. It is interesting as the river has been drained out and there seems to of been a sunken row boat at the bottom of the river with the ground growing over it. I like how you can still see the river in the background of the photograph.

LO1 Blog Post #2 (Gregory Crewdson)

UNIT 31 LO1 Blog Post 2

Gregory Crewdson

Gregory Crewdson was born september 26th 1962 is an american photographer who is best known for staging his photographs. In the 1980 he studied photography at SUNY Purchase near port chester in NY. He received his master of fine arts from yale university. He has also taught at sarah lawrence, cooper union, vassar college and yale university where he has been teaching since 1993. he is now a professor at the yale university school of art. in 2012 he was subjected of the feature documentary film Gregory Crewdson brief encounters.

Hid types of photographs are usually taking place in small towns in america but are dramatic and cinematic. They often feature disturbing events. He uses a lot of lighting in his photographs, with using film production. He calls it American realistic landscape photography.

This photo was taken by Gregory Crewdson, it is an untitled photo from Crewdson's series Beneath the Roses from 2003 to 2005. The Photograph is interesting as it is showing the same person in 4 different ways. the photograph s also showing the clothes thrown on the floor and the gloomy conditions of the room. This is showing the sort of state that she lives in.

This photograph was taken by Gregory Crewdson. it is also an untitled contemporary photograph. The photograph is quite unusual as everything that is going on you do not see every day. I like how it is quite dark and the light shines from the right onto the pregnant woman. When you look at it you are trying to figure out what is going on as it is unclear from the first time you see it.

This is another untitled photograph by Gregory Crewdson. This is in the sanctuary series and was taken in 2009. It was framed at 28 and a half by 35 and a quarter inches. It is a pigment inkjet print. The photograph has a ominous feel to it. The doors wide open gives the idea that the place is abandond or forgotten. I like the black and white feel to the photograph, i think it adds to the abandond look. The sanctuary series looks quite different to the previous series of photographs that he directed.
